Chick has been a slang term for a woman for quite a while. It started because baby chicks are cute and cuddly. Calling a girl a chick assumes a certain level of intimacy that is probably inappropriate.

My wife calls herself my chick. I figure she can call herself whatever she wants, but I always call her my woman or my lady.

That's just me.

Chick is used when a girl is sexy to the extreme.. but I also don't use it allot unless I was with people who only understands that word,,, it's the youths as you said my lady.

I totally agree with you. I have a name and that's what I like to be called. If someone doesn't know my name then the appropriate and polite thing to do is call me ma'am or miss!

Gotta admit though, Chick is a helluva lot better than Wench, my ex husband used to call me that, hence the ex, LOL!

Yeah, seems stupid to call a good looking Chic a chick! Terrible! It sounds like chicken and not French for a very fashionable woman!

I can think of worse. I do think it is mostly teens my age that use it, some fifty year old man better not be calling his wife a chick.

Where does it come from? Well, little chicks come from eggs!

That sounds like something a "chick" would say.
