My cat recently died, and though i'm still coping with the grief of losing a pet, i now have a new set of problems: there are fleas all over my apartment. I have clothes EVERYWHERE (i'm a 22 y/o female in college... what do you expect?) My loft doesn't have carpet, but i'm worried about what a flea bomb will do to my clothes. And if i don't treat them, i'm guessing i won't solve the flea problem.

I really hate chemicals and would like to do a "green" or at least semi-natural cure. Any suggestions?

I'm sorry about your cat

Try putting your clothes in plastic garbage bags then bomb your loft - read the instructions carefully so you know what else you need to cover or protect

Good luck!

This is the best natural way I know of and it DOES work but the problem is finding it. We lived of a farm and didn't have the means to have a pest control come in. My dad would get leaves from a black walnut tree and lay them all over the carpet, underneath everything. Let them lay until dried. Pick up what you can and vaccuum up the rest. I can't tell you how or why it works but it does. A friend thought I was nuts after trying everything else, but once they tried it that's all they use now. Hope this helps and if can give it a try. Beats all those chemicals!!! Good Luck!!

I am so sorry about your losing your cat. I just had to have my 17 year old Garfield put down, he had cancer. So I sympathize.

Get a small container of Seven dust, a find powdered pesticide. Vacuum up about a cup of it into your vacuum bag.
Than vacuum every inch of you apartment. You will have to shake out your clothing and bag them up so they do not get back into the clothing.

The dust will kill them in the bag. After vacuuming every possible nook and cranny, dispose of the vacuum bag by putting it into a plastic garbage bag and tie it off and put in in an OUTSIDE garbage can. The can get out of the bag and re infest.

You will need to do this a couple of times, as eggs will hatch every 7 to 10 days for at least one or two egg layings.

A flea bomb will not hurt your clothes. But you could actually clean the house. The fleas under the clothing will NOT DIE.

nothing natural will work, sorry. Try Fumigator, which is excellent. Remove and other pets or fish bowls first though. that will get rid of them. Or you can go to TSC and buy this stuff called Bronco Spray, like $5.00 a bottle and well worth it. It's safe to spray directly on a pet, or on surfaces such as your carpet, kills fleas like crasy. If your having a flea and egg problem though, go with the Fumigator. Those other flea bombs are useless, all the do is knock bugs out for a while and then they regenerate.

Now that the fleas primary food/water source (namely your cat) is gone. They are searching for a new sourse of food/water. That is why you all of a sudden see/feel them. They were always there, but they were happy. Now that cat is gone, they are hungry/thirsty.

By far the best "green" solution to a flea problemis dehydrate the little varmits.

All you have to do is turn the heat to its highest setting and vacate the premises for 18-24 hours.

Without a "food/water" source (Namely your cat) the will dehydrate & die. And any unborn eggs & larvae will also dehydrate ¬ survive.

I do not know what part of the country you live in BUT considering it is now "summer" Heating your apartment to 95 degrees for 24 hours may not be that hard to do.

Just find a "friends" house to stay at for a day.

Good Luck & Sorry 'bout your cats demise.

Just shampoo your cats with the flea shampoo. in your home, you have to bomb your house with the flea bombs from Walmart or your local store. You will need to be out of the house for 1-2 hours, but they will be gone. Or call a bug control company, they will get rid of the problem with a 30 minutes full house visit. It should cost up to 50.00 but that will help.
