The activity of organism involves lots of chemical process, as a biologist who must realise it and then do research to understand the mechanism of these reactions, and use what they've learned to appaly to medicine area and understand lfe science.
We all know enzyme is very key to reaction,especially the metabolism.It's necessary for a biologist to have it at his finger ends.

most of respiration and photosynthesis and macromolecules, are a lot easier if you did organic chem.
you don't need to understand chem per se, but it helps.
