Well, ants HATE baby powder and red pepper. If you sprinkle some on entering the doorway or where they enter from, they should be gone withing a while. Also, if you have a dust buster or vacuum try vacuuming cornstarch and it will smother the ants in the vacuum.

Ants usually come in my house when it rains or very hot outside. I hate the random ants.
I have small kids and cats so I like to use something that is not toxic. I use orange spray usually used as air freshener. It must have the essential oils, any citrus will work. It kills ants on contact. The only draw back is the ants will return again. Using poison will keep them from coming back for a few days.
If you have a basement or crawl space under your house you may need to spray there to keep the random ants from coming in your house. If you have a slab foundation every once and a while spray around your house foundation and that will keep the critters from invading.
Having ants in your house is a normal thing and is in no way a reflection on the cleanliness of your home. Ants happen. Vigilance is the answer to the ant invasion.

Okay I know this because I am Argentenian and the Ants are Argentenian lol. There is this White Ant Chalk you can buy in China Town or online.
Basically use the Chalk to Draw a Line, border or housing in the area you want no ants or want them to leave. Give it 15 minutes and no more ants! They will leave the area and not return! Cool stuff, Pet and Baby Friendly too.

Their is a product called Terro which comes in liquid form for indoor use and an outdoor, either powder or pellets. The web site is www.terro.com. I live in a Mobile home park and the first year I had ants in the bathroom, kitchen etc. Now I'm happy to be ant free!

Are they bigger like carpenter ants? If they are carpenter ants they could be in the wood somewhere by your couch. You would need to get some carpenter ant killer. Here is a web site. If they are small like sugar ants you should spray insect spray around the outside of your house all around the doors under the eves EVERYWHERE. :-) I had a big problem with sugar ants, made nests in the walls and in the attic so try to control it quick.

Spread WHEAT GERM on the floor. In little nooks, crannies, maybe a little pile here and there. The ants "take it home" and they can't digest it, so it kills them. Kinda like a Trojan Horse.

a few old remedies er repellents ive learned from people..
is laying down a few bayleaves here and there around where they are seen... it will repell them.. it works..
another one ive heard is baby powder.. havent tired this one though.. but the same person that taught me about bayleaves told me this one..
ive also heard if you put 50/50 sugar and comet detergent on an anthill.. it will wipe them out.. idk about that one tho..
