Much of the coastal area of southern California is now below sea level due to subsidence following oil drilling. This is especially true in the Long Beach area. Much of the Netherlands is below sea level, especially at high tide. Yes, this is going to be a problem. I'd invest in companies that build sea walls.

RE:
Below sea level cities/countries.?
To everyone who answered my first question about, 'other than New Orleans, is there anywhere else in the world below sea level', thank you. If you live in an area below sea level, aren't you afraid of tidal waves or levees breaks or something of that sort? Godforbid of course. But it...

Plenty of places. The most famous is the Netherlands, where much of the country is below sea level, and is protected by a levee. Others, and less prone to flooding are Death Valley in CA, and the Dead Sea between Jordan and Israel.

Everyone has a sad heart for Haiti, including God. There are things that happen in this life that we do not understand. Rather than blame God its a time to pray for His help and it is coming from many people, Christians, atheists and others. This is such a tragedy that to start blaming God instead of turning to Him for help is foolish. Especially when I have heard reports that some of the people of Haiti are calling on God. When you feel overwhelmed with sadness it is better to turn to God for healing than to become bitter.

i think its a certain amount of the unknown -- i live in florida where we get lots of hurricanes -- my friends in california are scared of hurricanes -- but i can't take earthquakes. if you ever went to new orleans or the netherlands it is kind of scary when you see the levees and realize tons of water is on the other side -- but to them its an everyday thing.
