I've only been able to breed female pokemon, even when the odds are against it. For example, my lucario was female. Is this normal, or is there a way I can be doing something wrong?

I been having trouble myself at the moment. I am so trying to get a male bagon but out of my 4 eggs, all of them have been girls.
There is a rumor saying that if your character is male, you will get males and same with female character. So far it has not been proven.
Just don't think about it too much.

I believe the newly-hatched pokemon can be either gender. I just had 4 Burmy eggs hatch and 3 were female and 1 male. I do believe the hatched pokemon specie will be the same as the Mother, just like in the previous games. For example, I had a female Burmy and a male Skorupi and the four eggs were Burmy. In order to get Skorupi eggs I would need a female Skorupi and a male Burmy(or other male pokemon). Hope that helped.
