It's nighttime here in Ohio of course. I walked out into my kitched to get a drink and as I walked past my window, which has an air condition installed in it, I heard someone whistle. Can anyone see through an air conditioner in your window from the outside? I don't know!! I live on the outskirts of town, other houses nearby, just kinda freaked me out a minute ago! I turned the back light on after it happened.

No, the top portion of the window is covered with a venitian blind and a curtain, no bare windows in my house.

the answer to the actual question is NO. People cannot see through an A/C unit. The evaporator coil (located on the front or inside portion of the unit) is separated from the outside condenser coil (located on the rear or outside portion of the unit). If the A/C unit was "see though" or hollow then the unit would not cool properly or function at all. You would just be pulling ambient air in from the outside and not actually conditioning the air in the home. Virtually impossible. Some A/C unit have a fresh air intake that allows air to come in from the outside but, these are located on the side areas of the unit and are not larger than 1" square. The answer is NO.
With that being said, it is possible for someone to have seen you from the glass window portion (if there is one) above the A/C.
Chances are that it was a fluke and someone was just cutting up outside. To be on the safe side you could contact your local law enforcement agency to inspect the outside of your dwelling. Even if you contact the police, chances are that a peeping tom or anyone else would not hang around after making themselves obvious (like whistling, shouting or being seen). My bet is the police find nothing. My bet is that it was a fluke.
Stop letting your mind run away and go back to bed.

First, you can't see through an airconditioner, though you could see through the window part. If you turn off the inside lights, rather than turn on the outside ones, it might be better. Probably someone was whistling, but it didn't have anything to do with you, but one never knows...

Please describe the whistle; wolf whistle, or dog call?
Or alert, like 'caution' to an associate?
Lot of us use whistles for 'come here', or 'where are you?' to avoid using speech over distance.
You can't see directly through a window air conditioner that I've ever seen. If it was you that merited a whistle, they may have seen a shadow/ silhouette.

Call the police. It's what they're there for - you'll feel much better knowing that someone has checked out your property. And while they're there, turn the light back on, go outside and see if you can see in or not.

it might be possible to see through one.. maybe it was a bird or something or was it like a definite whistle.. i dont know. either way just make sure your door is locked and stuff and maybe even turn on some lights outside, because it is supposed to ward off burglars and stuff, because of people seeing them, not saying it is a burglar but this is 2007 people are nuts.

that must have been scary .. but no they can't see in but they could have put a camera in your porch looking in your window or also a sensor so whenever it does get something it whistles ...another answer would be that they could be peeking in your window , if they are in the airconditioning they could be looking at you , they could also have set up a camera in your air conditioning of somone who wanted to spy ! do you know who's whistle it was ???
