Squatters rights are when someone uses property without the owner laying claim to it. Your grandmother knew you were there and it was her house, you were a guest or caregiver not a squatter.
My boyfriend has lived with me in this house 15 years it doesn't give him ownership even if I died, he is a tenant. You wouldn't expect to get a free house is you were renting when the owner died even if you had been a tenant for 40 years.
