My first impulse would be to think he changed his mind, or saying it made him panic and want to back off. Then I'd wonder if he was sick, or someone in his family died, or something. After a while, the truth becomes obvious...and the things I think about a guy who would do that aren't very charitable.

If you did this...and she cares/cared for you...she's probably hurt, confused, and then angry after a while...and then will write you off. She may try to contact you, not because she's desparate, but just because she doesn't know which end is up now...

Basically, the longer you stop talking to her or seeing her, the more likely she'll decide this is a rejection, and she'll eventually pick up the pieces and go on (depending on how she felt about you before you bailed).

Question for YOU....why are you asking? Wanting to make amends?

What goes around comes around, my friend...even if you don't want to be with her again, you should man up and apologize for bailing. Be honest (and KIND) and let her know what happened, to the extent you're comfortable. Take the fallout as gracefully as you can. Remember, you were the one with the poor manners. Now's the time to show good manners.

Why? Well, if being decent isn't a good enough reason, then...Because....You never know when you'll fall for that cute little redhead you met at the supermarket, only to find out the gal you bailed on was her old college roommate.

This is one of the main things that guys do that are almost as confusing as what gals do to guys. It's terribly hurtful and shows weakness on the part of the guy who does it. I did it in eighth grade, but not since then.
She's going to be confused and hurt and will (understandably) hold it against men for at least a while. Why would a guy say that and then disappear?

Since I have a very low opinion of how men treat women in relationships, I would think: TMB - "Typical Male Behavior". But that's just me...

If not gay, then you found some one else, or if you are playing games with her mind, then you should be castrated.
