An unintentional by product of Voldemort's killing curse towards Harry. I say unintentional, because of course, Harry was never intended to survive.

The results of Lily's sacrifice were: 1. The curse rebounding and disembodying Voldemort. 2. The scar. 3. An empathic bound between Harry and Voldemort. 4. The transfer of parselmouth ability to Harry (It would be interesting to see if Harry can still talk to snakes, assuming he lives and Voldemort dies).

Some people will say that Harry is a horcrux. Harry is not a horcrux!

This idea makes no sense in light of the prophesy for one, and why would Voldemort put part of his soul into someone he might have to fight anyway. If he kills Harry, he's wasted part of his soul. Also, I reject the idea that Harry became a horcrux as an unintentional byproduct of the rebounding of Voldemort's killing curse. The byproduct is known and is the empathic bound between the two, and that's all, IMHO.

Remember too that all the horcruxes have to be destroyed before Voldemort is vulnerable to death. If Harry is a horcrux, then Harry must die first, then Voldemort. So it would mean that Harry would have to loose a killing curse at Voldemort just after Voldemort loosed a killing curse against him--that is very tricky timing!.

I take the prophecy to mean that vanquishing Voldemort it Harry's job--no chance that Voldemort becomes vulnerable with a Harry sacrifice and with Harry dead, someone else kills Voldemort. Voldemort is too powerful for others to kill, and I believe Harry has something about him that will enable him to finish the job.

Tom Riddle (aka Lord Voldemort) was told part of a prophecy which Sybill Trelawney told Albus Dumbledore. Severus Snape overhead the first part and told Voldemort. The prophecy foretold a boy born of parents who had three times defied the "Dark Lord" would have the power to overcome him.
Snape identified Harry Potter as fitting that prophecy, and Voldemort was told the Potter's secret residence by a Peter Pettigrew (aka Wormtail), a friend of the Potter's who turned traitor and betrayed his friend, James.
The curse scar on 15 month old Harry's forehead came when the Killing Curse which Voldemort threw at Harry backfired and killed Voldemort's body instead. Lily Potter's sacrificial love for her baby boy protected Harry and sent Voldemort into 13 years of exile until his body could be resurrected.

Because Voldemort tried to kill him but harry's mom's power of love stopped it when she was killed and when Voldemort said Avada Kedavra, Harry lived but had to deal with the scar.

Voldy tried to kill Harry but because his mother died for saving him, Voldy couldnt kill him due to protectionof Harry's mothers love. So even though Voldemort used Avada Kedavra (killing) Curse Harry had nothing except the scar which had some of Voldy's powers.

Maybe behind Voldemort hid Snape and he had the power to create scars which made people pain if he looked at them. However,an accident happened and so Harry POTTER
was a fame automatically in people's heads. I don't believe that the love was too powerful. A parent can't cast a spell on her own child and leaving a scar.(last line in Harry POTTER and the Deathly Hallows.) I READ THAT BOOK ALREADY...

Um. I think Voldemort tried to kill him, but his mom protected him. And like, his mom died.. but her love for Harry was powerful enough to just leave a scar on him. =]

I've only seen one person spell his name right-
Voldemort.
but most people are right--he got the scar from voldemort when he tried to kill him...it did work, and all that was left was the scar.
Maybe?
That's what I get from the movie.
:]
