I lifted the hood to feed my fish and seen tiny white flies on the inner hood and in the top of the water.What are they? and how do I get rid of them?

Chances are you're seeing midges, a small fly like a mosquito. They lay their eggs in the water, so you may see what looks like little worms in the water when they hatch. They won't hurt your fish, and the fish will probably eat them.

Those are fruit flies! Very very bad for your fish, I had them last month, and they about killed everything in my tank. This is the solution to your problem... Take some RAID, spray the light and around the hood of your tank, spray the glass above the water line, and the very top surface of the aquarium water ( RAID does not mix with water). You should be ok after that, RAID kills all insects, and wont hurt fish or mammals every time!!! Hope this help, good luck!!!

to be real safe buy a new tank get ur fish out of the old one clean them by putting them in a Tupperware and putting new water then fill the new tank with new water then put ur fish in the new tank (do not put the water from the Tupperware in the new tank). hope this helped u.

Seem to be the larval stage of some kind of insect. Scoop them up and throw them into the water as a nutritious snack for your fish.
