I've been riding for a couple of years now and I love the community amongst fellow riders. For South Coast Australian riders when I mention the Pie Shop atop of Macquarie Pass you'll all nod your heads and know how if you see a another rider sitting having a coffee etc. its always welcome to say hi and swap stories.

BUT... one thing I hate is when you are on the road, you spot another rider heading towards you, you get ready for the nod or wave, you commence waving only to be snobbed off. Not happy.

Now, I understand the rivalry between sports and cruisers... but is there another reason I’m missing??

I hear you, bro. I remember when folks in trucks used to wave to each other because they were the minority.
Crotch rockets, cruisers, Harleys or Hondas... hell. it's in the Ride itself, no matter what it's on!

they could be all sorts of reasons. Years ago you wouldn't find a harley rider riding with anybody who wasn't riding one too. This day is over. As long as you have the wind in your hair, that's great. But, here in tha USA, we always wave at each other with respect. If your all broke down, everybody, including cage drivers stop to see if you need help. I have been riding for over 40 years and yes I am a women. It is too bad they are snobs because that has changed through the years. We are suppose to help each other. Remember we were and are still considered outlaws because we are free.

I recently rode around Australia for charity (16000 kms) and I had nothing but waves all the way around.

I agree though ,some riders are up themselves !. Motorcycle riders in Aus are an endangered species and waving shows solidarity.

I usually see those that dont wave as elitist , the weekend wannabees with all the gear and no idea.

Dont worry about these blokes , usually they are fair weather riders who like to pose.

Enjoy your riding and make the most of it, if they dont wave back thats their problem ...not yours.

Well, things like clutching, or even at times day dreaming will keep me from waving. Sometimes on a nice day when a lot of bikes are out and I've already waved 20-30 times it gets old.
I figure at a rally when there are hundreds, thousands ,or even 10s of thousands of bikes waving is impractical.
Or maybe I'm just feeling anti-social today.
Don't take it so personally, I didn't mean to hurt your feelings.

Bake in the day seeing another bike was rare. Today there is a bike at every stop and it gets old. It is no longer rare and everyone has a motorcycle. From one stop light to the next I could waive at 3-4 bikes.

When I ride out in the country and see the occasional bike I waive then.

This is not a motorcycle thing exclusively; I also have a C3 vett and all C3 vett owners waive. That is because they are rare and I am not waiving constantly. Mercedes people waive to each other and my friends with exotic cars waive to each other.

Imagine if every person who drove a Chevy Silverado in Texas waived at one another. With that many trucks what is the point.

Is it possible that they were just new to biking and didn't realize that it is a common courtesy between fellow bikers to wave or nob? I know I learned that over time from experiencing it. Also I have noticed it happens between more than bikers...ex. when I got my Jeep Wrangler it seems to be common with those also to wave to a fellow Jeeper. I don't know it was a thought.

Guys on crotch rockets can't wave because they are all bent and can't lift a hand without wobbling. I have a wee scooter and the guys on Harleys get a kick out of it...I have my lunchbox strapped onto my bookrack...with my library books.OK, so I'm a geek, but I wave to anyone except the crotch rocketeers.

Perhaps the other rider is concentrating on something, or worse yet, not paying attention. I wouldn't immediately assume ill-intent.

Well sonny do you wave to everyone when your driving your car,,hmmm.
So maybe they're novice riders and not used to the wave thing you know.
