What gives you this premise for your question? I have never thought that American citizens were "scared of the government."
As a voting block, the American citizens still control the government - the most recent example is how quickly the immigration (amnesty) bill that both sides of the isle tried desperately to shove down our throats was pulled and went back into "debate" - simple because of the back lash that immediately came from the citizens.

Too much government power is never a good thing. If it doesn't scare you then read more history. Specifically about Nazi Germany, Soviet Russia, Red China, Cambodia, And every other country where government took total power and collectively killed 150 million or so of their OWN people in the last century.

They might not be afraid, but they are pissed. Though I don't see anybody taking action to change it (all complaining..) If they were so dissatisfied with the Bush admin. , why did they RE-ELECT him?!!? Also, Americans should really start voting for Democrats in 2008, cuz I read a book called Blackwater, (rise of USA's most infamous mercenary group) Every concerned citizen should read it. I worries the heel out of me for u poor people, cuz the Bush admin. supports total privitization of the military. And right now, there's more mercenaries that aint held to military laws in Iraq than responsible american soldiers. (why do u think the irqis hate america if u try to 'rebuild' their nation?) Mercenaries have killed an great and uncountable number of iraqi civilians, women'children included, and none have been held accountable cuz they're "civilian contractors" rather than mercs. Americans, BE AWARE OF WUT HAPPENS IN YOUR COUNTRY, means not listening to government controlled networks, but use the Net...

If you want fear of government, try Cuba, Mexico Venezeula, Russia, China and so on and so on, In USA there is no fear.
