I did, my parents were always working class democrats. It struck me that alot of my political ideology comes from my childhood and growing up midwest democrat. I thought, wow, all that I know and believe has come from someone else and their ideas about religion, politics, life, anything really has all been conditioned into me directly or indirectly. And I just wondered why we as a people get so opposed to others belief systems when our own were founded upon the ideas of others. It made me feel a bit unoriginal and blokheaded. Why do we hang on so tightly to what we've been conditioned or manipulated to believe in the first place. Why shouldn't it be easy to listen to others and let go ofm our parents stuff and the governements stuff and all that other stuff. Our parents molded who we are, why do we always hang onto that? Why do we continue to fight about poltiics? A truly original move would be to try to understand what, where, why, how, who the other side is saying.

I think i did as a teen, but once I was on my own and lived life a bit, I'm now 45, I've changed my political views to align with my own views about society and how government should be involved or not. I think there will always be a divide in this country because some people think the goverment should control peoples live and some people think they should mind their own business except when it comes to community needs, such as highways, schools, social services and human rights.

I didn't.

When comparing Democrats to Republicans it becomes a this or that argument. My parents were registered Democrats, but were also members of the Moral Majority.

When having to choose a political party to affiliate with while registering to vote in High School, I chose Republican due to the party saying that government should not interfere with peoples lives (since that party now wants to interfere with peoples lives I am no longer Republican).

While growing up, I rebelled against my parents views. I did not adopt their views and, sometimes, did the opposite of them in order to assert my independence. My views are not based on anything that I have been taught, but on what I have learned on my own.

I was raised middle class Democrat. My mother is still Democratic and we clash all the time. I started going my own direction in my 20's and I am all the way libertarian. My mom and I just recently argued about minimum wage increase.

My brother on the other hand, is Democratic and he parrots whatever my mother says...

Its in our history since the dawn of man. We may never be able to think that open mindedly. I was raised in a strict conservative republican household and still am there (im 13) If you catch on at an early age what is being downloaded into your head then u may be able to break the link. Im beinging to think a little more libreley but still beleive in small government that is something that has completley rooted itself in me after 13 years of hearing it over and over again

I became as apolitical as I possibly could be when I saw that the current system is killing itself and us along with it. As one individual there is precious little I can do to stop what is happening, but I sure as heck don't have to participate in it.

My beliefs are the opposite of my parents. The are very liberal and I am fairly conservative, even though I am gay. Why is it like this? I think it is the over kill of their ideas growing up

Economic side? We'll see.
