If it is the tail lights then the light switch needs to be changed. If it is the brake lights, then the switch on the brake pedal is faulty.

No problem, the taillights are controlled by a separate switch, else you would not be able to park your car anywhere with the lights turned on

Try pulling up on the pedal and see if the lights go out. If it does the switch pedal or return spring, might be sticking, all located near the top of the brake pedal. Spray WD40 or whatever lube you have.
If this doesn't work it's what everyone else said.

The first thing that comes to mind is a bad stop light switch, down by the brake pedal.

If it is the tail lights then it could be a short or the headlight switch. If it is the brake lights then it is probably the brake light switch at the brake pedal

what kind of car????
if its a vw its gonna be the brake switch which is located underneanth the brake pedal...should be warranty...
if its a different car could be a number of things....relay,,,wiring issues,,,switches...depends....you turned the h/lights off right...jk
