Just keep up the service, and drive it carefully. Don't abuse the car. I've known a lot of engines with many miles on them and never had any head gasket problems.
Again, keep up with the maintenance, change the oil and change your coolant. This will keep the additives in the fluids and help prolong the parts life. good luck.

you really cant stop it from happening to some vehicles,i own a shop and people try so hard to take really good care of their cars, and they will still blow a head gasket it all depends on how well the car is maintained, and the way it is run,but on a used vehicle sometimes you wont have any control over this, the previous owner may have ran it really hard,if one ever gets hot from blowing a hose or loosing anti freeze ,it will probably do some damage to it,but there's no way anyone can guarantee this will never happen, any car, even some of the Lexus cars i have worked on blow head gaskets, its just un-predictable these day which one will ,and which one wont, good luck with it though, i hope this helps.

Regular maintenance of your vital engine oil, cooling system and preventative maintenance...Oil and filter changes every 3k miles with quality oil....coolant changes every 20k miles or twice a year....here's something a lot of technicians don't think about, even the one's that's been in the auto. field for many years...coolant thermostat...most neglected part of the cooling system....i'd say should be replace every 50k miles or anytime the water pump and or radiator is replaced...radiator fan clutch if your car has one....any signs of the hydraulic fluid leaks from fan clutch should be replaced...keep those radiator cooling fins clean....u can use water pressure from a garden hose to remove obstructions...last but not least.....glance at your temperature gauge every now and then just like how u look at your rear view mirror...i know,i know, who looks at their temp. gauge while driving...the smart ones who can save $$$$$$$$$$ on costly repairs and spend more time driving worry free than the ones that spend more time at the auto repair shop...

all you can do is keep it from overheating, but sometimes they go without warning.
