Many women find during pregnancy that their skin is more sensitive and that they are much more susceptible to sunburn.
If this applies to you, be liberal in your use of sunscreen and avoid the sun where possible. In pregnancy, levels of melanocyte-stimulating hormone are higher in the body, and this makes pregnant women prone to excessive skin pigmentation.
If you get chloasma (the irregular dark patches on facial skin called the "mask of pregnancy"), it can be a sign that your skin will react more strongly to sunlight than usual, so take more care. The chloasma may be increased if you sunbathe or use a sunbed.
In addition, lying in the hot sun for hours on end increases the risk of overheating and dehydration - neither of which are good for you or your developing baby.
Good luck

Laying out and getting a tan is no different really although different hormones can cause your skin to be just a little more sensitive so soak up on the sunblock.

Yes, the vitamin D will be good for you. And if you plan to breast feed your child, if you expose your nipples to the sun and air for a minute or two each day, increasing gradually, it will harden the skin just a little and make nursing more comfortable for you when the time comes. Also make sure you drink lots of water!

Check out this article... it talks mostly about tanning lotions and tanning beds but I think that some of the info pertains to lying in the sun as well.
For me personally, I think that going one year without a tan is a small price to pay to ensure that my baby is as healthy as I can possibly give him/her the chance to be.
EDIT... found another article... http://www.babycentre.co.uk/pregnancy/isitsafeto/sunexpert/

You know my wife had no problem getting a tan while she was pregnant. It won't effect the baby, solar radiation is only skin deep. Wait, or is that beauty?
Actually the fetus will probably benefit from Vit D plus the relaxation you will receive.
Enjoy browning!

it's just important to not get too hot. when i was pregnant with twins I went to Hawaii and my OB told me to get in the water every 10 minutes to cool off. seemed to work, but the heat just made me feel sick. also you burn MUCH faster when pregnant. tanning beds aren't good because you don't feel hot, but you burn. but overall, you shouldn't worry too much - just use sun screen and stay cool.

You have to be very careful. You are more prone to burning and dehydration.
