When you're in a falling elevator, you should jump before the impact? Or would you still die horribly, maybe even suffer some broken bones?

Even if you were able to judge exactly when the elevator was going to hit the ground, jumping in the air would not help you survive.
You'd still be travelling at the same speed as the falling elevator, and you'd still hit the ground at the same speed.

it would be hard to know when you are about to hit the bottom..if you were in one and it were falling that fast you would just hang on tightly out of panick, and then proberly have lights out when you hit the bottom, because the lift would proberly crush like a can, but then it depends on how far it falls...but there would be no way of knowing when it hits the bottom, that would be the scary part, waiting for the impact

I saw a show once that said it's best to keep your legs planted firmyl and hold on to the rail in a corner or something. They said you def. should not jump.
