I received a notice on a turn signal recall about two years ago. At the time I didn't have the problem. Now my turn signals don't work but I don't have the paper work. I called the local dealer and they said that the recall didn't match my VIN. They want to charge me $85 just to look at my car.

Do I have any other options?

The VIN break point for the 2000 Grand Am Turn Signals/ Hazard flasher recall is
YC535849 - YC568892
and
YM792549 - YM886948
That means that if the last 8 digits of your VIN falls between YC535849 and YC568892 or the other set of numbers, your vehicle is eligible for the four parts that will get replaced. This may or may not repair your concern. You could have a wiring issue. If your car is not within the break points, you are responsible for paying for diagnostics on your car.

If you are between the break points, and the dealer you took the car to would not repair your vehicle, you should go to a different Pontiac dealer.

I would call another dealer and ask to get a recall check with your VIN handy. If the say there is nothing outstanding, the recall was a time limit one and you will be out of luck. You could try to whine to GM about doing it as they do try to accomodate people. Why didn't you go in when they sent you the letter as it wouldn't have cost you a thing!!!! The only thing else you can do is diagnose the thing yourself as it might not even be related to the recall.

well.. 1) its worth about $4000 +/- depending on the condition and miles 2) ive heard of the ignition switches having problems as well as cruise control 3) the oil leak and the light smoke could be signs of a blown head gasket which can be expensive hope this helps!
