For the most part, they are just more active listeners than they are speakers. On the Internet, they are referred to as lurkers. When they do speak, usually they are informed and not just spouting off like many people do, especially on the internet.
James advises that everyone should be "swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath."

Usually, when someone is talking, nothing useful is being accomplished.
It's difficult to write or think when you're talking. It's unsafe to talk and drive at the same time.
People at work who are always talking not only are unproductive, they are disturbing everyone else.
Television is similar... someone whom I don't know and don't even like is talking to me thru a stupid box, and I'm not able to do anything but stare at it with glazed eyes and drooling mouth.
I guess talking is fine if you're communicating with your gf or spouse, or kids, or in a meeting. But don't label someone quiet just because they are not talking. Chances are, they are solving an important problem, and you are disturbing them.

I could also say: pleople, who talk too much are trying to hide insecurities through diversion ! You can`t say just because someone is quiet, it is a sign of insecurity. And what is wrong with having insecurities ? Everyone has them. Wanna bet ?!

nah quiet people are not necessarily insecure. they are comfortable with silence. some loud people are really insecure and they feel like they need to fill every moment with words because they feel uncomfortable in silence. quiet people (or at least some of them) know when to talk and when to shut up!

no I am no insecure, I find that I learn more by listing than I do by talking.
but when i do talk, people tend to listen.
I talk more on here in an hour than I do all day in person.

No I'm quiet and I'm not insecure. There are those you are talkers and those who are listeners. I choose to be a listener..

I'd go with the idea that quiet people are the wise ones. If your mouth isn't open, foot can't get in!

Quiet people are generally thoughtful people... thinkers. Even analytical... observing, learning, absorbing information - that sort of thing. And most things said are trivial anyway, to a quiet person, so they keep quiet until something worthwhile sparks their interest enough to join in on.

I'm comfortable being quiet. I feel insecure when I feel like I'm pressured to talk, and my mind goes blank anyways when that happens. People are just born this way--there are talkers and there are listeners (introverts and extroverts).
