Chicago is a wonderful city, a city with a soul. This is real city living, something you can't do in LA. However the weather is horrible. It's either too hot or too cold most of the year. Spring and fall are good, but summer and winter will make you wish you had stayed home in LA.

There is a reason most people move from Chicago to LA, not the other way around....weather.

Chicago is a terrific city, with tons to do, nice parks, and great restaurants. It's a fun place to live.

That said, it is very, very different than Los Angeles. LA is a big, sprawling city that is dependent on having a car. In Chicago, it's a hassle having a car. In LA, there's mountains. In Chicago, while there are nice skyscrapers, the city is dead flat. In LA, there's a slight air towards a focus on beauty and appearance. In Chicago, that's not the priority - good food and sports are. LA is an expensive place to live - you may be surprised how relatively cheap things are in Chicago.

The biggest difference, of course, the one that you'll really notice, is the weather. Chicago is almost ridiculoulsy hot and humid in the summer and violently cold and blustery in the winter. Which is, of course, very, very different from LA's mild year-round climate.

But if you can adjust to the weather - and lots of people do - and if you can adjust to not having to drive everywhere - and lots of people do - my guess is that you will really enjoy Chicago. It's fun, exciting, always bustling, young, and a really charming place to be.
