They fight over Real Estate, but that is not what motivates the conflict.
I went to the Middle East with the Middle East Peace Initiative. There were over 300 of us (one of the smaller groups) from all religious backgrounds to tour, meet, visit holy places and talk with the major religions of Israel - Jews, Muslims, Christians and Druze (the monotheistic faith of Moses' father-in-law)
It was very motivating to meet and share with leaders looking to do something at the heart of the problem.

Well, you can try being REALLY, I mean REALLY nice to everybody. Offer free tea and home-made crumpets.
Or, you can perhaps allow for the possibility that peaceful co-existence isn't everybody's idea of ultimate happiness, in which case you have several options:
1. "Machiavelli-1": Conquer the other countries. Annex them. Move your capital into the heart of the conquered territory. (Installing puppet governments is a cheaper version of this option, and usually has only temporary effectiveness.)
2. "Machiavelli-2": Promote constant low-level warfare between the other countries. Help this or that country off and on. That way, YOU can have peace with them.
3. "Thycidedes": Remember what Thycidedes said: "Weakness invites domination of the stronger." So in order NOT to invite domination, we must avoid weakness. Maintain a strong, well-trained military. Make it understood that you have no desire for conflict, but if your interests are infringed upon, you will not hesitate to strike the trespasser. (Unfortunately, this method is ineffective against religious fanatics.)
(DISCLAIMER FOR YOUTHFUL MINDS: I am not advocating, excusing, or justifying world domination. I answered the question as if it were neutral, rather than loaded -- the former being more interesting than the latter. Chill, okay?)

Unfortunately, western ideology differs incredibly from a middle-eastern standpoint. Where we see oppression they see a way to connect with Allah.
While it'd be impossible to have World peace, increasing peace is simple:
- Start teaching world religions in primary/elementary schools
- Before you start a war, fully understand it's ethical/religious complexities, so many lives were lost in Iraq due to the general lack of cultural knowledge
- Trust; During the Gulf War, thousands of Iraqis rose up against Saddam in support of America assuming we would take him out of power, we left and all that support that would've been with America was ruthlessly murdered. This is a constant theme in the Middle-East; they trust us we leave, they die. We need to establish trust.
- Watch Rambo III; We as Americans have such short term memories, we forget people like the Taliban were our allies against the Soviets (and that really bit us in the bum). We can't trust American arms and training with random groups just because it serves our short term goals. Lasting foreign relations must focus on fifty years down the line
- Stay the course; I don't care what political affiliation you are, pick something and stick with it, all this stop-go BS is ripping apart American credibility.
- Unite the fight; Remember after 9/11, we as a nation were solidified as one, even better, we had the majority of the world on our side. We had it in Afghanistan, but with the war in Iraq we slowly lost it. We need to reunite the world under the banner of fighting a common enemy.
But perhaps the only TRUE peace that will ever be known will be the ending of the phrase "rest in peace"
By the way, the General Pershings' concept while enduring in the hearts of many, only worked because there were no media outlets to broadcast what he did. If killed Muslim terrorists and put their bodies in pigs’ blood today, they'd crucify him and we'd have uprisings all over the world. Think about it, if the modern extremist fire-bombs buildings over a silly cartoon, they'd flip over "pigs blood warfare."

Peace treaties are usually considered a sign of true peace. The problem with the Middle East is that nobody wants peace.

The only way to have true and long-term peace with a country is to have the same ideological beliefs as they do.
Specifically, there will never be peace in the Middle East, unless either all Muslim extremists or Jews are eliminated. They will never live in peace because Muslim extremists believe fervently that genocide should be brought to Israel. Kind of hard to negotiate from the point.
And even if Muslim extremists eliminated all Jews, they would just turn their hatred and fanaticism on someone else - Christians, or Muslims they deem "not Muslim enough". That's why they're extremists.

You try to bring peace between countries by promising to watch out for one another and by boosting trade between the two, but there's always a certain level of animosity between even the closest of international bffls. Look what happened in England, we were extremely close allies (and still are) but why do you think Blair stepped down? Surely he wasn't completely in agreement with us. So even in a "perfect" relationship there's not peace... so in the end, I say there never will be.

Big fences make good neighbours.
Just keep on killing...yeah...that will bring peace all right...I'm sure you are willing to forgive and forget your brothers who died in war aren't you? Why would "the enemies" feel any different...more non-terrorists are killed than terrorists...so you just create more martyrs...is that why they are all gunned down regardless? I heard it's policy to just "shoot them all" over there if someone is shooting at you.
Imagine if you had a sniper in a crowd and the military said shoot them all down we don't know where he is...that would be ok would it? Would Americans stand for that and say it was a necessity for the cause or would they be outraged?
This is why there will never be peace. This war is escalating, not coming to an end.

> Take away all the women. They would either make peace, or die out.
> Take away all the children. The WOMEN would beat the men over the head to make peace to get them back.
> Nuke them all
> Start bombing them with pigs and drop pigs blood on their mosques. Worked 50 years ago in the Philipines when a US Major? killed 40-some Muslim extremists after WWII, and buried them with pigs and pigs-blood in a mass grave, and let a few go to spread the word...they were GOOD little zealots for the next 50 years! No more problems.
> Send all our USA confiscated guns via mini-parachutes to the citizens and combat zones, and let them kill themselves off.
> Send all illegal emigrants in the USA from the past 400 years (by native American standards) back to their home countries, and leave the American Indian alone here.
> Drop via mini-parachute American video games and toys to the kids overseas in the Middle East, and in their own language, and brain-wash them to love American toys. The kids will grow up loving the USA, not hating it.
> Stop it with the stupid political ideology on BOTH sides, that don't know a darn thing about Muslims, and get someone into politics that DOES know something. White people know nothing useful about them, apparently.

Well just keep working hard, paying your taxes and putting liberals in office. A lot of countries around the world are depending on it. We currently have somewhere between 12 and 20 million of them here now that were undoubtedly very impressed while living south of the border. And now that they are here, we must support them too. So, my advice to you, just keep up the good work.
