There are numerous opportunities for learnigs salsa in SF Bay Area.
To name a few good choises:
Metronome Dance Center (SF) http://www.metronomedancecenter.com
Allegro Dance Studio (Emeryville)
http://www.allegroballroom.com/
Just Dance Ballroom(Oakland)
www.justdanceballroom.com

Every local college (Berkely, Stanford, SF schools, community colleges) have salsa classes that everyone can take. Those tend to be cheaper than the ones taught at dance studios. School is not in session, so those classes may or may not be there in summer.

check out local community colleges (I know DVC in Pleasant Hill offers night and weekend classes for beginners and intermediate). Normally they cost only about 20-26 dollars (per unit) for a semester, which is a lot cheaper than a private studio. That way, you don't have to worry about impressing anyone because in the beginning, almost everyone is a beginner. Also, I know that there are some salsa clubs that offer lessons early, like Montero's and Allegro's (both in the Berkeley/Albany area)
