I am a Chinese myself and I live in China. Frankly, I am sick of all the "I hate China" rubbish out here on Yahoo! Answers.
What I hate is not just what some of the lies that they are making up but how they didn't even live in China or at least do some basic research before posting their claims.
If you live in China for a few year and you still hate us then I have nothing to say. But some of them are just staying in their homes and insulting us without even bothering to do some traveling!
Here are some example of their idiocy:

China isn't even a major power! Why don't people see that the great and glorious United States will never let anyone be strong?
(So, China have the largests army in the world, a booming economic and 5000 years of history but we are still not a major power. OK....But where is the prove?)

China is nothing but a barbaric backward nation. Everything there are State Controlled and all they have is a bit of fake capitalism. Her people are brain washed and mindless, they eat everything even each other or their own children! Also, everyone there are forced to work as slaves and the army with kill them just for the fun of it. In China the people can't read any outside information at all and things like TV, computers, ipods and Internet are illegal and you will be killed if you use them.
(Wow… Did this guy just do all of his research about China in his @ss?)

Users like ‘I hate commies’, ‘A proud American’, ‘SunValleyLife’, ‘swissarmor’, ‘US only’,’ Hyperion monk’ and ‘bear8357’ are bashing China but they don’t bother to lift a finger to do some real research. They made their claims and they hit their chest but they are WRONG!

If you never been to a place you don’t have the right to comment on their own issues. I am not an American and I have never been to Iraq so I rarely comment on the war there.
I think everyone should have a chance to defend him or herself. I will try and contact the users that I named and let them know that I am bad mouthing them in this question. Perhaps they will grace us with their presence and their answers.
If you are opposed to what I believe, fine. I believe in free speech and encourage all to intelligently debate me. But if any of you start to post silly answers I WILL give you a thumb down, I WILL make fun of you and I WILL report you.
Thank you.

I am living in China and I enjoy my life here without being opressed! My family and friends are fine. I lived there for most of my life yet I never saw anyone shot down in a public square.
We Chinese are just like anybody else in the so-call 'free world'. We buy houses, we own cars, we wear signature clothes, we use computers, we use Internet, we watch DVD movies, we own bank accounts, we have stock shares, we can travel to anywhere we want to go, we watch TV shows from the US, we play computer games etc..
Believe it or not, my goverment are on course to establish a better standard of living for the general population. With that, hopefully better education, a broader and wider view for the future will follow. Only when the "people" shows maturity should democracy be attempted in the not so near future.
I do not believe the country is in bondage. We may not be free under the communist, but we won't be better off if the KMT is still in power.

To Aslan:
(1) I don't care who is the super power of the world. As long as the world is fine I don't mind too much as of who is in power.
(2) I am not a communist. I don't agree with anything about communism at all. In fact, when I did a Moral Politics Test I scored as a republican. If you want you can try the test too. Here is the website:
http://www.moral-politics.com/xpolitics.aspx?menu=Home&action=Test&choice=Long
(3) I love China. China is my motherland so I love her dearly. My loyalty to China is to her people, not the government. There are lots of things that are wrong in China but I still love her very much.
(4) I love the United States of America. I love and admire the American life style. I think capitlism rocks. I love apple pie and hot dogs. I enjoy country music and I like to watch the Simsons. Many of my best friends are Americans and I like them. Most of my family work for an American enterprise. Some Chinese do hate America but not me. I love you guys.

So much dis-information from any and every source. Typical media B---S---T. Let's find somebody to throw rocks at today. Boy, I bet we could really sell some newspapers if we stir up all those people. Sadly, too many readers are drawn in and just like reading some of the smut news stand crap papers we find them believing all the groundless charges and counter charges, and....
Yes, we have those groups within that are drawn to stir issues up and see if they can cause discontent. Then we have a political interest group that will say anything to create unrest.
China is simply a very big target. Easy to take shots at because we in this country are, for the most part, not aware of the history or present modernization efforts when it comes to today's China.
It is magical that a country so large with it's population cross section is even able to manage as well as it does. Sure they have some real problems, any nation that size and with that vast number of people scattered across the face of the earth is going to be near impossible to manage. That they do as well is a credit to the people and the effort it must take.
We need to understand that China has just now really come to terms with capitalism and are doing a reasonably good job making it work. What does this mean for us? This is the beginning of a whole new ball game. Nobody wants to get to a place were we are shooting at each other, how stupid! Nobody wins a war today. We all want to build and bring new prosparity to our people's lives.
The vast amount of talent sitting out there, wow, if we could just harness that ability and put it to work making things for betterment, not weapons, but food and medicine and...
I for one do believe in the inate goodness of mankind and it's base desire to do good and go prosper. Why don't we get togather and give it a try?

I don't see it as an insult to marriage, but it looks like a plea for attention. Or else a woman is so desperate to have a wedding that she doesn't care that she doesn't have a husband. I wouldn't attend something so silly. This is nothing like gay marriage. Gay marriage is a commitment between two people who love each other and want to be together for the rest of their lives. This is just someone who needs attention.

Well I can see by the answers here, some of you understand, some of you didn't and some of you just want to spew the same hatred till hell freezes over.
The ops best defense as well as my own is for you to visit. I did twice before I decided to live here.
I'm not some totalitarian dictatorial communist loving mindless robot. But rather a freedom loving American who has become disillusioned with my homeland and see an emerging China slowly turning into what our ideals are.
Yes, China has a long way to go. But what would you expect when 20 to 30 years ago they were not free. That instant freedom and democracy be installed overnight? We've seen two recent instances where that simply does not work, especially without bloodshed and social upheavals.
-----------
The "proper" plumbing issue is indicative of the Ugly American attitude. Their plumbing has existed for eons, the modern commode invented by Mr Crapper (true) is a modern invention. I suppose when someone like that comes to China they will demand NY Pizza on every corner and complain about everything that isn't American.
Please, when you come here, come with an open mind, lose the fix it attitude, especially the Ugly American one.
---------------
I live in the central part of China and I am free to travel to any part of China I want (with exception of sensitive military area's, same as the states). I need not get any permits or inform anyone where I am going or when I plan to come back. Every Chinese person enjoys the same freedom.
Also, all Chinese citizens are free to travel abroad and immigrate. Of course they must go through the same things we have too, passport, visa, etc. It is harder to get a visa to many countries for Chinese citizens, but that has nothing to do with China, but rather the country they are traveling too. Example, to get a visa to the USA for a Chinese citizen can take months, sometimes years, sometimes never. Whereas for a USA citizen, it took me 5 days to get my visa. That is one of the privileges of being American. It is a lot easier for us to travel.

I'm sure everything you said was nice and fine, until i saw the little thing about "I believe in free speech". THAT'S where anything you had to say about the goodness of china got completely ignored.
The only reason Google is allowed in China is because they removed all links to the Tienamin Square protests.
Now, how well does that speak of "free speech" in china?
I'm sure you're a great person, and what not, but you obviously do not see the world, or your country for that matter, the same way your own country does.
Here's hoping more people like you start standing up for free speech and a better china, and a better PERCEPTION of china amongst the world at large, but, you're country isn't there yet.
PS- The Chinese government wont even allow the world economy to decide the value of your country's currency. There have been many claims of undercutting that makes it worth a lot less than what it would be if it were on the same terms with the dollar, and other countries, and in so doing makes it a lot cheaper for foreigners to invest. Ya.
Not saying America is perfect, but at least we allow ourselves the chance to screw up, rather than never being afforded the chance to excel.

China is definitely a major power. And, in recent years, has made strides in trying to install some bits of freedom, especially economic freedom.
No knowledgeable American should have a giant beef with China. They're an economic threat, and their society isn't yet open enough, but that's life. America has much bigger problems than China.
How can you not at least admire a country that has been around more than 20 times longer than America?
Don't worry about the people on this site. They bash everything, and they don't let silly things like facts stand in their way.

Wow,this is a tough one but I respect and understand how you feel, just as many berate America.
China and America have been in testy waters for years, toying with each other I guess you could say.We need to learn that we both have big boots[govt, nuclear weapons etc,] and I think we feel a threat to each other.
However we still remain civil in certain areas to one another.I think alot of it is fear.I do not judge Chinese based on the differences of politics. But we do have many more freedoms than your government.Freedom of religion,of course that is diminishing quite rapidly here in the states.
We don't have control of family size here in the states, however,we need to realize that while our population increases,we also need to increase our resources..,refineries to keep up with the demand for more oil,electricity/power supply demands,employment..,etc.But we cant because of all the epa regulations and restrictions so we are biting the hand that feeds ourselves and many of us Americans fail to recognize this issue.
Great question and not all of us hate China. As long as we can respect one another and keep our govt's communicating with each other,we are good to go.

Why? That would mean questioning their basic ideas and at times calling into question their self-image!
I know what you meant.
Your command of English stuns me! Glad you're speaking up. I believe in free speech as well.
Two requests: Don't report them unless they break Yahoo! rules.
Don't tell them not to comment on something they know nothing about followed by a comment that you support free speech. It's contradictory.
They're comments are annoying (whether I agree with you or not), and I myself am VERY opposed to socialism and communism in the United States, but they have free speech.
I'm pleased to see you believe in free speech! I understand they've been having some problems with that in China, yet you have access to this forum! The idea that the Chinese censor everything may have to come into question!
Keep speaking up. The United States may have it's bad qualities due to free speech, but its SO worth it, long term.
I would LOVE to learn more about China from you. Contact me any time.

I'll never forget when r. reagan was denouncing communism and then was the first president to go over to play tootsie wootsie with the red chinese.
The T.V. cameras were rolling, and nancy upstaged ronnie, as usual.
she and ronnie were standing in front of an outdoor market place and nancy spoke up and told the proprietor of the market place that he was on American T.V.
She then asked him if he would like to say anything to the American people, and he said "Yes, Lady, aren't you going to buy anything?"
Of course she did her best to save face and said "Oh yes, I think I'll buy something for the chil----dren!"
I wondered if she ever realized that he had just, proverbially, slapped her across the face.

Do you really think that the Chinese government would allow us westerners to travel to the ,
Henan and Shanxi provinces in central China.
For some reason I don't believe so, do you ?
Just how many police and government officials have been caught in China's latest slavery ring ??
Yet, you wonder why people think China is a backwards country ??
Or is it maybe that China's government says only those making less than 646 Yuan a year ( $85.00 US ) are in poverty.
Think about it.
