We're usually attracted to our friends by things we have in common. Then we start spending time with them. As we get to know them, we either like them better or unfortunately, find things about them that we disapprove of. If the bad outweighs the good, then we probably will stop seeing them. I would want to know if they had similar interests and values to mine. I would not want a judgmental prude, nor a real loose person for a friend. I would also want someone I could count on when I need them and someone I could trust with my secrets.

Values, definitely. But I don't "decide" if someone will become my friend, it just happens or it doesn't. We've moved around a lot and had to start over in new communities with new people quite often. It seems that people who share your values or interests or hobbies will just keep appearing in your life, and the more time you spend together the closer you get.

I love people who think different than me, so I am not restrict about things they should always have...and I really don´t mind it because I am sure I can learn a lot from them, that I can open my mind in other ways...do you know what I mean?
But the essential thing for me that makes me want to be friends of somebody is to admire him or her in some way! I have to be a student...I have to learn from them, and they have to make me be a better person!

you need to know about the person's reputation. the kind of person they are, and what they have done in the past that got them where they stand now. if they will be there for you when u need them, or just bail on you. know their interest, and what they enjoy doing. how they treat others, and how they portray themselves. if they stick to their promises, opinions, and their beliefs. hope that helps.

Do they treat people kindly and with respect? Are they good listeners? Are they emotionally mature and strong? Do they take good care of themselves?
