I would like a unit that is a DVD Recorder, yet also suports Tivo (a DVR). 40 hours DVR would be sufficient.

You want a DVD-Recorder/DVR Combo.
Check Panasonic, Philips, Samsung, Toshiba, all of them have them.
If you buy one, try to find one with a digital tuner so that later on you can record (on the PVR at least) in HD.

Hi Iggygoalie,

I don't think there is a combination unit available but with a TiVo series 2 you can connect the unit to your computer and burn DVD's on the computer. You connect an Ethernet cable to TiVo and leave it connected to your network all the time. You can be burning DVD's while TiVo is recording something else.

I use that feature and it is neat, simple and the software is free from TiVo. I think it is better then a combination unit would be.

Go here for information on the software - http://www.tivo.com/mytivo/domore/tivotogo/index.html
