Seems they want to pay less than a living wage, sell at very low prices (saving on labor helps that), avoid paying social benefits - heck what is abetter way to achieve their goal, besides they will no-longer need to have dual language expenses; Spanish can be the one and only official language. Am I correct?

Well, thats primarily because they're illegal. Unlike a smaller company, Walmart and any other larger company, does have to provide W-2's and detailed paperwork to their internal HR groups and such otherwise they get themselves into trouble.

As far as their organization turning legal employees into a permanent economic underclass at slave-wages elsewhere and here in the US, yes, that's a problem.

Do what I do, don't shop there - ever, I avoid those places like the plague, since every few months some other questionable business pracice comes to light and the whole think stinks of monopolistic capitalism....on steroids, where smaller mom and pop or regional players get wiped out, and consumers don't appreciably benefit.

As far as English vs. Spanish, I'll quote the very upset Indian woman at the DMV the other day, after some jerk started berating and stepping into some hapless DMV minion for 15 minutes (they were upset that the little fill-in card instructions weren't as descriptive in Spanish as in the English version.)

An rather exasperated older Indian woman, complete with brightly colored Sari and deferent manner, clearly an immigrant due to her own accent, turned to her husband, and said this.

"It is simply unbelievable, how can he have come to the United States. It is customary to speak the language of the country you are visiting...Let alone trying to live in...How did he not know they speak English in the United States and why is it somehow that man's fault over there, (gesturing to the clerk) that he doesn't read or speak English properly...."

She continued on for another two minutes , at which point the ENTIRE queue/line started clapping, the abusive customer apparently was quite embarrased.

Well first off illegal immigrants already have thousands of our jobs. Second it could be because they are illegal! Also if you want Spanish to be the official language than go to Mexico. This is America and here we speak English. "added note" Any immigrant from any where wishing to work in our country should have to speak and write english fluntely. Same goes for any American working in other countries.

Ah, mucho, mucho...Oh! First: who says Wal-Mart DOESN'T hire illegal immigrants? But, yes, they pay low wages, don't provide health or retirement for most employees, etc.
The Colonials chose English, even though the majority of immigrants spoke French, Spanish, Dutch, German or other...So, if they chose English, the "illegals" should also choose English.
Besides, Spanish doesn't have nearly as many words in their vocabulary...

Because there are plenty of Americans who are so desperate for a job they'll submit to that company's infamously creepy employment.

In a nutshell, because the economy sucks enough to make it unnecessary to bother with immigrants.

I call that the wave of the future.
