It kinds of depends on how salty the water was, and how long it was left there. However, if the salt water was more concentrated than the fish's body fluid osmotic concentration, it would lose water and gain salt through its gills. The body would gradually become more dehydrated, and the fish would have no way of ridding itself of the excess salt, so it would die.

it will die saltwater is more dense than fresh it would suffocate now if you add very small amounts of salt water over a period of time it might adapt im not sure
