I was wondering if you get a D+ in an AP class, if you still get the credit for it, so that it doesnt have to be retaken.

If you are taking an AP class in high school, the grade on your transcripts shouldn't matter...it depends on the grade you get on the actual AP EXAM (1-5) Most schools give credit for 4s and 5s, some for 3s. You need to check with your college to find out what the policy is.

I've talked it over with my counselors and they say that dual-enrollment (running start) would be easier. The reasons being: 1) You don't have to take the end of the year AP exam to get credit. You get what you get. 2) They say that AP classes are actually harder than dual enrollment because high school teachers have to get to a certain point and have to have a certain level of rigor. Dual enrollment means you get whatever teacher you get -- whether it be difficult or easy peasy. Take dual enrollment, you get so much more done than just taking AP exams. Take full running start both years and you get two years of college credit, take two full years of AP classes and you are overwhelmed and have to pass the AP exam to get the credit. Running start you're guaranteed the credit as long as you don't fail!

It depends on the school, but in high school it's usually the grade point average that matters, not the credit earned. It sounds like you might be better off taking a non-AP class and getting a higher grade.

A D+ is passing although it is barely passing. A low grade will keep you out of AP classes next year.

Such a low grade in an AP class will not look good on your trasncript. It will hurt you more than a low grade in a non AP class. If you were struggling in that class why didn't you get help or transfer out before it was too late.

I had the same question on my mind too, on another website, I was told that the AP Exam is out of 5 points, and only those who get 5 out of 5 get the credits.
Good luck!

Sounds like maybe you shouldn't be in an AP class if you are only getting a D+.
