Even though he pays little, $45 a week, that is all she has lived on for 5 years along with her welfare. She owns 2 computers, with internet, makes paymenst on a 98 Durango, and smokes 2 packs of cigarettes a day. How has the system gone wrong??

I don't think welfare pays a whole lot, could you find out what the allotment is in your state? I'd be curious to know. Some congress people tried living on a dollar a day and found it impossible to do, hopefully welfare pays a bit more than that.

Not all of them do, just the ones who abuse the system. I was most certainly not living better than the working class when I needed welfare and have been doing better since I worked my way out of that situation.

The way welfare is set up you can't get off of it. If a person gets a job, and makes some money they loose all benefits. Who can afford to loose all benefits, and medical so you end up back on welfare.

First, they don't have to work through May just to pay taxes. They don't have to pay insurance premiums. They don't have to buy gas to go to work. They don't have to keep a car up so they can go to work. In some cases they also get child support and their premiums paid. They get food stamps also. They can get help on utility bills.
