Great question!!

For understanding all, we need only one mind, but it should be free from ego. It is our ego that puts up the blocks between our mind and other people's minds. Ego solidifies the mind depriving it of its natural fluidity. However, a totally fluid mind would deprive us of any personality..... therefore, the ideal may really lie in between the whole mind and the no mind where we would have our own viewpoints and yet be humble enough to grant others their own viewpoints as well....... this may not lead to total understanding, but would certainly lead to an ideal balance of understanding and tolerance, which in my view is the most beneficial state of mind.

There are different minds for each understanding. So every understanding has a mind somewhere.
