This may sound like a joke question, but it really isn't. I've always wondered why it's usually pink instead of, say blue or green (yes, I know some is kind of fleshtone, but it's almost always pink). Even my uncle who's installed insulation for 35 years hasn't got a clue. It seems like a kind of nancy color choice for a construction material. Anyone know?

Pink is all about three things.. Marketing, marketing, marketing...

Only Owens Corning Fiberglass Insulation is pink, almost all other manufacturers have a dark yellow fiberglass. The reason for this is that Owens Corning's mascot is the Pink Panther, hence the pink fiberglass. There is no structural advantage for the pink color except to seperate its product from the other brands since fiberglass is a commodity market.

The pink insulation is I believe a patented color of Owens Corning. The ones that used to use and I guess still use the Pink Panther in their ads.
Other fiberglass insulation's manufacturers color their product yellow or white.

The reason is quite simple:

PINK fiber glass insulation is the best choice because it maintains insulating power over time. Since fiber glass does not absorb moisture, PINK insulation will not hold water, thereby resisting any permanent loss of R-value. Plus, when properly installed, PINK fiber glass insulation will not settle or deteriorate, thus ensuring that the insulating value is maintained.

The insulating materials in PINK fiber glass insulation are also noncombustible. In fact, this natural fire resistance is unaffected by moisture, evaporation, or time, which makes it a very reliable product.

Not only that, but PINK fiber glass has been proven to contribute minimal emissions to indoor environments according to research.

Hope this answers your question...

You guys have no idea what you are talking about...

They colored it pink to alert some poor S.O.B. with a bright color that he was about to begin a really crappy day crawling in an attic....The yellow stuff is the extra itchy version of the previously mentioned pink stuff and the blown in fluffy brown and white insulation is there just to really piss of the electrician who has to cut in can lights....

Owens Corning perfected a way to use a red dye sprayed into the tiny glass pieces to make them fluff back up for attaching them to the paper backing and it then made the product pink, They since patented the "pink" as their signature insulation.

Very good question. I always thought it was cute they had the pink panther on it. There's also a yellow one and when I started rehabbing and learning. . .I asked what was wrong with the yellow one. I'll be watching for an answer. . .

I believe that only Owens-Corning is pink, they also use the Pink Panther as their mascot. I think they use pink for promotional purposes with no real reason.
