In one of the debates, the canidates were to say if they believed in evovultion. The Feast of Fools: Gay Fun Show talked about this and want to see if anyone else really is offended that the canidates don't except the facts--the show compared it to not believing in air and gravity and it really is. You believe you'll recover from a disease but you can either accept or not accept the facts about evolution.

How do you feel about the canidates not excepting the facts?

Greg, it scares the h-e-double-hockey-sticks outta me.
To those who say it doesn't matter---it certainly DOES matter when we're talking about what may or may not become acceptable for schools to teach their students. I want my grandkids to have the facts, not a cute story from a book of fairy tales (otherwise known as the Bible.) Adam and Eve....oh, please.

Well, first off, it depends on what you mean by evolution. There are people who believe in evolution WITHIN a species. But not that species became entirely different species. Then there are people who believe that evolution is exactly as stated. Everything came from one single cell. Then there are those who don't believe in it at all. Which, by the way, is okay. That is why it is still called the THEORY of evolution. Your belief in something as fact does not eradicate the beliefs of others.

Actually 3 out of them said "They did not accept Evolution as the only course of study".
So you must be ALARMED at what Science and Anthropologist have been telling us for years.
Man, according to SCIENCE did NOT Evolve from anything other than man.
Neanderthals, Homo Erectus, and other "Forms" were other didstant cousins, not on our Evolutionary tract. Different sized Brain Cases (Neanderthal was bigger actually) and that man was a form of "Natures Experiment") that survived and thrived.
This has been the thought of men of science sine Dr. Leaky's anaysis staring in the late 1960's.
So, if you are gonna make a baseless statement, at least get the number of Republicans right, and quote what they said. Are you that desparate for things, you just make them up now?
Oh, and perhaps a little reading also. Perhaps study science, before you blurt out a dumb statement. I learned about this in Jr. High and High School and all the way thru college.
Where did you learn???

While I personally find Evolution plausible, I do not believe in it to the same degree that I believe in the annual cycle of the seasons.

Evolution is a theory. It's causes and effects are not fully explained. It is not considered a "fact" even by people that are much better informed on it than I am, because it has not been proven.

How do you feel about not knowing a fact from a theory?

One, that isn't true. Two evolution hardly matters at all right now when you should be worrying about the war and illegal immigrants and other things that are pertinent to the stance of a presidential candidate.

Only three of them raised their hands to say they didnt believe in evolution. Their names are:

Tom Tancredo
Mike Huckabee
Sam Brownback

And, as Jon Stewart put it right after showing the clip of them raising their hands; "They will be missed."

Meaning they dont have a snowballs chance in hell of getting elected, just because of that. Mark my words. None of them have a serious chance of getting the GOP nomination.

I'm not saying I agree that something as irrelevant as believing in evolution should determine whether or not someone has a chance at getting elected, but it does.

And why would that be alarming? Its not like theyre going to make believing in evolution illegal.

Evolution is proven as well as anyone could expect. Catholacs were quick to understand this. I grew up in a baptist family and was taught that it was all lies used to turn people away from belief in God. When I got older, I decided to look at it for myself. What I found... evolution is real, it happens around us all the time. Germs adapt to cures. That is evolution. Pests adapt to pesticides. That is evolution. This doesnt mean I dont believe in God. It just means that I can accept reality.

my inclination is that most Republican politicians pander to there fundimentalist base. So I don't know if they really believe what they are saying or not. But its sad that so many people choose not to trust real evidence.

The word you are searching for is "accepting". I don't know where you get your information, but I attended Catholic School for twelve years and we learned all about evolution. We were also taught that the Biblical account of creation was not to be taken literally. But we were taught to believe that God is the Creator.

Never were we taught that evolution does not exist.

While evolution is a theory, rather than a proven or provable fact, there is certainly a lot of supporting evidence that simply cannot be explained away by anything but blind faith.

What the failure of any Republican candidate to challenge the religious right about their doctrinal rigidity tells us is that none of them have the courage to stand up to their party's extremists. That should scare us all. We cannot afford another conscienceless opportunist in the White House at this time, whatever party they might represent.

First...."I heard" is never a good way to start a question. Your facts are incorrect my friend...they believe, but they aren't going to say that out loud...the Christian Right would have a cow.

Second, to the nice person that said 7 out of 10 people don't believe in evolution....did they do the poll in a Christian church? Get your facts correct before you make such a statement. Seventy percent of our population isn't that dumb!!
