What is it about Jerry Lewis that makes the French adore him?

When he was with Martin and Lewis I grant you they were a huge success, but he hasn't done anything other than the MD telethone for years, all of his movies stunk, in my opinion, just wondering

It is not him. it's the French....They laugh at stupid stuff....Not at everyday funny jokes that we all like....!!!!
