Because it's supposed to be a free country.

It would take a heavy burden off the legal system.
If alcohol is legal, why shouldn't marijuana be legal?
Some people use marijuana as a medicinal aid.
The government would profit heavily from imposed taxes.
Maybe I live a sheltered life, but I've never seen anyone become aggressive or violent as a result of smoking marijuana, contrary to observations of effects of alcohol on some people.
One argument against it? Why put something else on the market that's mind altering or has adverse health effects - like cigarettes and alcohol?

There was a very good movie about this made back in the Thirties, called "Reefer Madness." If you watch this, you will fully understand why marijuana needs to be outlawed.

If you have a short attention span from using marijuana too long, you might see the musical version of it made about two years ago.

Hah! Anyone that voted against me that hasn't seen the movie needs "DUFUS" tattooed on their foreheads for not knowing satire when you see it.

-The govt. could tax it, and sell it by the pack, like cigarettes
-There would be no worry about tainted weed
-No drug dealers to worry about with weed
-It helps a lot of people in pain (physical and mental)
-It helps the artistic, writers, actors, etc. to perform better
-It mellows people out--instead of making them aggressive
-It's not physically addicting
-It does not destroy the liver, like booze and prescription meds
-It opens the breathing passages, whereas tobacco closes them
-It is the only substance that helps some fatally ill patients
-Everyone gets it anyway
-It can even be vaporized--that way it is no danger to the lungs at all
-So industrial hemp would be legal to grow in this country, too

Using marijuana is a victimless crime, just like drinking. Doing something retarded should be a crime, not using it, IMO. Marijuana should be available at the age of 18, just like tobacco.
