Matt B., Diana, and I drove through Dunkin Donuts and when dude handed us the donuts BEFORE we paid, Matt took off. I still feel guilty about that. Hey, those are really good ideas, btw.

secretgirl,
Most of us have been in that position. At times where I've had to face that, I've always been to busy looking for a job to worry about entertainment. Although when I was a teenager we parked outside the drive-in and watched movies and some people would sneek others in by hiding them in the trunk.
Frankly, I don't think most people consider what you did "bad". Unethical, yes, cheating yes, but most people would consider the circumstances before they made any judgement. Show me someone who claims they never cheated and I'll show you a fibber (let those without sin cast the first stone).
I have no children, so that's a difference. I totally understand that younsters need activities and entertainment and if the money isn't there and the system doesn't provide support, then more power to you.
I moved to the coast of Oregon once, with an old pickup and $500 to my name. I had to catch a crab or fish to eat every day for a month or two before I found work. I spent the money on an old boat and then the fishing and crabbing got easier.
I made a point of not cheating, though, but perhaps I should have scammed a little. If you're over 40 then your parents probably knew some hard times. I know that it was common to fudge a little here and there many decades ago.
If those are the worst things you ever do, then you're better than most people. You should feel guilty only if you had other options and chose to cheat rather than spending money that you had. Look at the CEO of Yahoo. He's been paid 70 million dollars to be in charge (do you think he earned every penny).

I have been known to buy a dress, wear it to an event, and then return it.
There was a time (more than one actually) when I was so broke and hungry that I hadn't eaten in almost a week, I mean nothing, so I walked several miles across town to a food bank, got some free food, and was so weak that halfway back home carrying the bag, I nearly passed out, so I sat down on a curb and ate raw collard greens, and they were the best thing I swear I ever had. Thankfully, those days are behind me and I hope I never see them again. I worked as a security guard, and one of my duties was to patrol the lunchroom while all the bank employees ate, I was so hungry I wanted to cry, and these people were throwing away food I would die for.

seems like the people that respond to this are truly far from ever being broke and hungry.. Millions of people do all kinds of bad things and sometimes they do bad things just to get money for food and get busted. Then you go to jail and get fed 3 meals a day then get released with no money and have to do something bad if you want to eat. Free country.. the only people that truly live free are people in custody. Now thats a horrible thought

I have never done anything that I feel teriffically guilty about. And guilt is a useless emotion - can you change what happened? All you can do is decide to do better in the future. When I was a lot younger and a movie was sold out I wanted to see I would buy tickets to another movie and then slip in and see what I wanted to see. One time I had to sit in the front row. That hurts your eyes!

When I was broke,I was more concerned with trying to get food for my kids rather than rent movies or go to the movies.

No matter what, I'll never do something bad. Even I am so in terrible condition. I always believe that if you do something bad. It 'll come back to you.
So dont. If you plan and use your money wisely...you won't be that broke.
