I think we do have a right to end our own lives, and no one else has the right to tell us we can't. The idea that other people have the right to tell you what you may or may not do with your own body is ludicrous.
Morality is a much greyer area, though. Your moral choice is going to be predicated on your own belief system. Most Christians believe suicide is a sin that will keep you from spending eternity with God. Others believe it racks up bad karma that will impact your next incarnation. I think hell is of our own making, and there may be a chance that committing suicide brings a lot of guilt with it into the afterlife.
Also, you shouldn't just kill yourself because you're having a bad day, or even a bad year. I've been there, so I know whereof I speak. However, if you are suffering with a terminal illness or you are getting so old and decrepit that you can no longer care for yourself, you should totally have the right to take your own life in a dignified way. You probably should give some explanation to loved ones, but if they already know you're going to die, and you've made your peace with them and said your final thoughts, you are free to "shuffle off this mortal coil" and go.
Just my two cents. I know I don't want to be kept alive with any extraordinary measures, nor do I wish to live an incapacitated life. Let others rise to that overwhelming challenge. I'll see them on the flip side.

You cannot end your own life even if you stop the functioning of the living organism. You will only change and redistribute as all energy changes and redistributes.
Cells commit suicide constantly in your body during a process called Programmed Cell Death.
You are questioning more the 'value' of your life than the right it seems. To be clear, you are no more valuable to the universe than any other animal on this planet. It is your culture that has put the idea of some 'noble' purpose above everything in the universe. It isn't real. You are more valuable to the earth as compost. The idea that you are somehow separate from the living universe is where you are misguided. How can 'you' end life that can not be touched by an imagined idea called 'you'?

there's several issues here. first, killing anyone even yourself is suicide and that is a crime. Therefore, instead of jail, you would get 3 hots and a cot at a psych ward..that is if you survive. most people survive and very badly. suicide is not easy. 2nd, why do it. if you are dying with a terminal illness and don't want to go through the pain, call in hospice. they are pain medicine experts. 3rd, if it is because you are depressed, look at some pictures of starving people in africa...no really, that should change your outlook on what you do have going for you. you can't possibly be the worst off. 4th, do you have a religious affiliation. if you are a Christian, your body is God's temple and you are not to foul it or destroy it or treat it like crap. If someone really wants to die and does not want to discuss it, they can do it. what is anyone going to do? morals, liberty, or other factors won't matter. you can't stop someone from doing it. it is their life, but what a complete waste and a slap in the face to God. He loves each and everyone of us, He has a purpose for each one. Of course, you can argue that your purpose is to die early to fulfill God's Will for the other people it will affect. He used the evil in Judas Iscariot to do His Will. He already knows what He's going to use you for. I would pray on it. But an early death is a waste of a beautiful life. Unless of course, the suicidal person is a criminal, gangster, child molestor or other creep that can't be rehabilitated. then by all means, guns are the best method, but don't miss. you'll just cause a mess and a brain injury and end up in a not-so-nice nursing home for the rest of your life.
Did this give you enough to think about?

One must be aware of the distress and suffering they would inflict upon those who care about you if you do commit suicide, else you are just being selfish.
If someone is in a lot of pain, and probably don't have much time left, it is of course their right to end their life, but they should be responsible. Talk with you loved ones so that they understand you are in a lot of pain and that death is a release.
In other words, in most cases I think it is a selfish and immoral out, but in rare cases is quite acceptable. The context is important, as it is in every situation in life, as every moment is unique. Personally, I believe in rebirth, so if done out of depression, its not like it will actually end everything, and many people (Buddhists, Hindus maybe) believe that you frame of mind greatly influences you rebirth. So if this is true and you commit suicide out of depression, then you just come back in a worse life (assuming you haven't gained positive karma to help). My 2 cents anyway.

If one is in pain which can be alleviated only in death, and that pain is greater or more lasting than the pain that would be felt by others as a result then yes. Also if it one has a sound reason to believe there is pleasure to be gained in death (ones own, or that of others) or if no one would feel less happy as a result (including, if you are a dualist; your own soul).

Morality is relative since it depends on a concept of good and evil. Therefore, any right associated with it would be relative also. My opinion would be that it is a personal issue and must be decided solely by the individual who may or may not have benefit of council.

It is evidently your moralliberty-right to end your own life...how can someone punish you if you committ suicide?Put you in prison?Give you the death penalty?Write you a ticket? That is the only absolute right that you have that can not be taken from you.....

Yes, I believe so, but only in certain cases. I would rather take my own life then to die by lets say, drowning, burning, smothering, smoke inhalation, Armageddon. But to take your life b/c your depressed and think no one loves you, or for any asinine reason isn't okay.

Taking your own life is never justified. Death is so permanent, and conditions can change. Besides, you don't get to see how the story ends.
