That's illegal.

Not since the late sixties when I was a starving hippie in St. Louis. I did not know that was the plan, but after the steak dinner, the other two that I was with got up to slide out. I did not have a cent on me, so I fell in with them right away. Just as we were being confronted by the bartender, two men came in with a two wheeler and loaded up the jukebox, and they were not repairman. The smart bartender was not about to risk his butt for a jukebox, and he looked at our stupid selves and waved us out as he called the police. LaClede's Landing was the 'hood at that time, but it is now very upscale. I have been there many times and always over tip, because I feel guilty for for the whole thing. Yes, we were hungry, but any of us were able to work but it did not fit into our party schedule at that time. I have since grown up. Not looking for a person to pay was wrong, just as wrong as I was in St. Louis.

My friend told me of a story of a man that went into a restaurant in Baltimore City never planning to pay for his order, he a steak dinner and just grubbed out, when the check came and was placed on the table he jumped up and ran out off the door so fast the he didn't pay attention to where he was going, he ran out the door right into the street where he was hit and killed by on coming traffic. True story, nothing in life is free, lesson learned, he'll never do that again!

That is no excuse to steal. Your waiter probably had to pay your check and got fired. Hope you are proud of yourself. Next time walk your lazy *** up to the Hostess or Manager and register a complaint. If you had any conscience you would mail a check and a letter of your dilemma to the establishment and apologize.

You could punish the server by not tipping and reporting the bad service to the manager...but why would you not pay for what you ate? You basically stole food, and even made the effort to get to-go boxes to steal it!
Just an excuse to be cheap, I think. Two wrongs don't make a right.

How about going back to the restaurant and tipping the waiter generously? He can always use the money.

well, you could have either asked for the ticket from someone else, or complained and gotten the whole thing free. =]
but it's no big deal, at least you feel bad about it, lord knows there's enough people out there doing it for bad intentions, so you're fine. Don't feel too bad, you did what you could.

I would find the manager, another waiter or the hostess and give them the money for the bill. I would never dine and dash.

You tell the manager and you get your meal for free anyway. Sometimes, they'll give you a gift certificate for the next time on top of the free meal. It's legal and you won't feel so bad. You could always lie and say the food sucked and still get it for free.

I and a friend had lunch one time. It was at a resort restaurant, off season so there wasn't much going on inside. We chatted as we got up and driving away I said "You know, we didn't pay for lunch!"
But having good conversation with my friend on our way out I JUST FORGOT!
