There are "name it and claim it" groups, "blab it and grab it" aka the Prosperity Gospel, It is also called the "word of faith" movement. In other words, if you say it, it will happen. The real answer is in the Book of Job. In the Old Testament, if you were sick, poor, plagued with all kinds of evil, you were a sinner and God judged you harshly with pain and suffering and allowing satan to take over your life. if you were rich, healthy, had lots of kids, you were considered righteous in His eyes and He would protect you and give you these blessings. Of course neither of this is true.
In John 9:2,3 -When the disciples asked Jesus why the man was born blind and if he or his parents was a sinner, Jesus replied, that neither were, but it was so that the works of God might be displayed in him. In other words, so that Jesus could heal him and be glorified. God used this man's blindness for His glory.

Since there are good men who are poor and rich men that are bad this seems not true. However, this could only be true if luther's idea of predestination were true in which there is nothing one can do through action to please god and make himself worthy, only god can make you worthy. Even here the idea seems stupid, but at least could make some sense.
