Well, my backyard was about 125 acres. We just shot 'em. No poison, no cage. They didn't really leave, but we kinda took 'em elsewhere.

You could catch it and take it to a wildlife rescue center, or just keep an aggressive cat in your yard till the ground hog takes off. A dog might not be as good as a cat for frightening it away!

I don't know, but we also have one in our backyard. My wife asked me to post this question not a half hour ago. It chewed off the tops of some of our broccoli plants and we have a three foot fence.

Plant a few rows of garlic around the edge of the garden, not many critters will touch it.

.22 rifle always worked for me if youre a pacifist try a garden hose down the entrance of there tunnel.
