Limestone was the most available building stone on the Balkan pennisula. It was used in many ways and in many forms.
The Egyptains used it to sheath the pyramids and in the building of many of their other structures.
Greeks probably discovered how to make plaster from slaked lime and use it as a cement for their tiled murals. The
Romans found that by mixing unslaked lime with fly ash made cement and when mixed with gravel formed concrete which could be used under water to hold stone together.
So you see many civilizations had a hand in developing uses for limestone. Limestone is just a white, sometimes chalky stone found on or near the surface.

Actually, you are wrong when you state the folks answering prior to me are wrong. They are all correct as limestone is a natural element, thus, invented by nobody.
I think the problem is in the way you phrased your question plus you probably can't recall the other choices that were given to you on your exam. Given the choices most would be able to deduce the proper answer for you.
"Which culture below first used limestone..." may be where you are going with this.
The Greeks did use both limestone and marble in their architechture. I do not know if they were the first civilizations to do so or not, though.

I'm afraid you are the one who doesn't know what he is talking about. The point people are trying to make here is that nobody invented limestone, so that could not have been the question. Whatever the question was, the answer is undoubtedly in your history book, and you probably would have known it if you had read the assigned chapters.

No one invented Limestone it is a naturally occurring sedimentary rock.
Limestone is the most abundant of the non-clastic sedimentary rocks. Limestone is produced from the mineral calcite (calcium carbonate) and sediment.

Seated toilets with drainage systems can be traced to 2500 BCE, but Harrington is credited with developing the water closet in the late 16th Century. About 150 years later, J.P. Brondel developed a valve-actuated flush toilet. Even though thomas Crappers name and occupation as a plumber would seem to make him perfect for the role, he didn't play an essential role in toilet development. He did however, collect several pluming-related patents.

God invented it--somebody who needed to build something a few thousand years ago first dug up a piece of it and used it. I seriously doubt that anyone can claim they know which civilization first used it. My guess would be somebody like the Persians or Etruscans or Chinese.
