Goldfish have no stomaches and cannot utilize foods the way other fish can. NO you can never overfeed since fish will quit eating when they are full. (This only poses a problem for the tank not the fish and you can never over feed to kill a fish. Impossiable. Also, it isn't a matter of how much they eat again gold fish and Koi are not like regular fish.)
The bottle is correct 3 times per day. This allows you fish to use the foods you feed them the best way they can. This is by the way why most people classify goldfish as "dirty" fish. They eat they poop.
3+ times is what they need.

It's really not how many times, but the total amount of food your fish gets. I like feeding mine twice a day.
Just add a little bit at a time till you see how much he'll eat in 2-3 minutes, then feed that amount twice a day. Pretty soon you'll be able to judge just how much you put in. If for some reason he doesn't eat it all, use a net to remove whatever he hasn't eaten. If you wanted, you could divide the amount he eats up and feed him 4 times a day as long as he doesn't get more overall than the example above. Also remember that as your fish grows, he may need a bit more food.

I feed only once a day to avoid fouling the water . If you want to feed 2 or 3 times it must be very small amounts each time

i feed my fish once a day or even every other day. they seem to be doing fine, even though the bottle says to feed them 3 times a day the same amount i feed them just once. someone told me that if you want your fish to live longer and healthier lives to feed them less frequent. it also helps on keeping the aquarium cleaner.

If you overfeed them they can die.
Besides, feeding them multiple times a day makes cleaning the tank a terrible, terrible experience.
