Ovulation occurs approximately 14 days prior to your menstrual period, depending on your specific body. You can monitor your body for when it is going to ovulate by taking your temperature first thing in the morning (even before you turn on the light, sit up, or go to the bathroom). There is a book that explains it in more detail called "Take Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler. Go to www.tcoyf.com for more information. It's not unheard of for women to have a long cycle, but there's usually a root cause that you should identify now so you can get it fixed. I suggest an appointment with your OB/GYN or RE (reproductive endocrinologist - fertility specialist who specifically deals with hormone issues of fertility) to start working on your period issues. :) Good luck!

No, you don't. In fact, being irregular often means that you ovulate at different times during your cycle. One month it may be on Day 14, another month Day 16, another month Day 12. Ovulation dictates when your period begins. Once you ovulate, your period follows about 14 days later. So if you ovulate one month on Day 12, your period will arrive early, and if you ovulate another month on Day 16, your period will arrive later.

Good luck.

Its a common misconception that you ovulate 14 days after your cycle however in actual fact most women ovulate 14 days BEFORE their cycle. So if you have irregular cycles it may be very hard to determine when you are ovulating. My cycles ranged from 30-35 days normally however there were months where i went 45 days....no wonder it took me so long to get pregnant! lol

no, but you almost always ovulate between 12-14 days before your next period. the problem is, if you are irregualr, there is really no sure fire way to know if you are going to ovulate, until you already have.

If you are trying to conceive, have sex at least every other day...that way you wont miss ovuation.

Good Luck!
