It's ridiculous! Isn't it? Chinese people have totally different features from one another. I mean, just because they all have the same color of hair and eyes doesn't they all look the same. You know?

Yes, it's ridiculous. People just don't bother looking past the hair colour and eye type. Of course they are all different if anyone cares to look at their features properly.

Of course they don't all look the same. The reason is lack of exposure to a large number of people to recognie differences. I live in Japan and have dark blond hair. I have been mistaken for other western women who have completely different features and even dark brown hair because apparently the people just noticed that we were Western and not the features. When you start spending more time with people from any ethnic group, the differences become clearer.

My theory is that when people look to tell the difference between people they cycle through a list of features. Eyeshape, body type, hair type and color, nose shape. Since most of these features on Asian people are for the most part the same we have trouble learning other features quickly.

Hey didn't I just answer this question last night? It looks just like ....
You know what it is, it's first glance. When someone sees someone superficially just for the first time or few times without getting to know them - people of similar ethnicity can appear seem to look alike because they haven't tuned it yet to those smaller differences.
When I was a kid I confused the first few black classmates I had with each other. Once I got to know them the differences were apparent.
Later on I asked a friend of mine who's black, if white people all looked alike and she said 'yes' . She explained that all the blond white folks or brunette or redheads all resembled each other - all until she got to know them.

amen! May I also point out another thing? Chinese people and Japanese people (not to mention their culture) have huge differences as well! People can be ignorant, but it's not always their fault. We live in a somewhat ignorant society, despite the theory of the global village

haha " Why do people think all asian are Chinese? " I am chinese but some of my vietnamese and korean friends get asked if they r chinese A LOT! I mean asian have similar physical characteristics just like any other group of individual but honestly we are not the same... ( trust me some people I know can tell which general region of China, someone is from just from looking at them.....) If you go to China or any other asian country and they too will tell you that all white look the same, and all black look the same...........................
