Is this the 'canary in a coal mine', potentially?
It strikes me a very, very strange, that the media abandoned this story as a headline issue.
I saw a story on how it is far, far worse in Malaysia, and now I can't find it.
Is this true?

People only seem to take things seriously when they are threatened.
I think that being alarmed will make people react in a proactive way.
If they think 'no biggie', then no action will be taken.
It is the way of the humans.

our agriculture relies heavily on bees to pollinate our crops...i'm worried.

but the thing with the media is, they like to hype and scare the public--that generates rating. tv companies like ratings because that means more people are watching commercials--and those pay tv salaries (in a round about kinda way).

just because they're not covering the issue doesn't necessarily mean that there aren't hordes of scientists doing research on the problems.

besides, people want to know about if paris hilton more than the potential collapse of our food production systems... sad, isn't it?

The thing with the bees is that they are crucial to all pollination!! My dad likes to be a bit over dramatic but here's what he said:

without bees pollinating the rate of food production will go down and the price of food will skyrocket causing an economic disaster!

We rely heavily on insects for everything!!

A quote I have heard was something like this:

"If human were to dissapear of the face of the earth, in a couple of years the planet would return to normal; if insects were to disappear of the face of the earth, then the earth would collapse and die".

A more important question is this:

Will becoming alarmed affect anything? If so, is it necessary to become alarmed, or can you accomplish the same thing in a calm, rational manner?
