Search in your area for private instruction on gymnastics and stunting. Or find a college cheerleader who will give you private lessons for cheap. As for stretching, sit in a straddle and stretch in every direction, middle and both sides, and focus on splits. Make sure to work on your jumps too especially if its an elite squad. You can email me if you need more help.

ok first of all. Elite teams are for cheerleaders who have been cheerleaders all your life. so you might as well scratch that off your list. sorry about that! you should start of from school and if you are serious about cheerleading and really want to be on an all-star team (like i do!) then you should just go to the gym and take private tumbling/stunting (if your a flyer) classes with an instructor. and elite teams cost thousands of dollars too. just for your info.

for school, the tryouts will let you know what you need to do. its more simple and straight-forward and its a good start-out for a cheerleader. its ok if you dont know back handspring, you will probably learn it soon if you love cheerleading! and also, its also good to start off with a basic cartwheel and roundoff for the school squad! just a good tip, so yeah.

well just try your best! and good luck with your cheer future!

Do exercises that focus on your balance and strength. You don't need to be ultra buff, but being flexible is a definite bonus. Things that are good to learn is being tight in jumps and how to distribute weight for stunts. UCA is a cheerleading association that has tips on jumps and stunts.

Other good things to learn are basic cheers and how to learn dance routines quickly. Ask your friends to work with you for a few weeks before tryouts or ask if you can see some of their old routines/materials.
Good luck!

take gymnastics!! that helps more than you know.
they's teach the simple stuff like back-hand & forward-hand springs on the LOWER levels
some gyms actually have classes that specialize in cheer-like stunts. it's a good idea to start as soon as you can if you REALLY want to be a cheerleader.
but remember: you'll be stereotyped like crazy. & at my school, the cheerleaders have to tell their coaches their myspace (ect) site URLs, & they search for everyone who makes the team. if they find you have a myspace & you didn't tell them, you'll get a strike. & here, 2 strikes & you're off the squad for good

Try some of these stretches and back handspring drills. Be sure to take tumbling classes as well.
