I am 27 weeks 3 days pregnant and this is my fourth pregnancy. I had complications with my 3 prior pregnancies 2 premature births due to problems with my cervix, my third was full term but I was on bed rest and hospitalized for signs of preterm labor. I am on bed rest now and went in today for my third ultrasound to check my cervical length. The baby looks healthy and my cervix looks good but the noticed a problem with my Placenta. The radiologist was called in to the room by the ultrasound tech and he explained to me that a small part of my Placenta has become detached . He assured me that there was nothing to worry about and that they just had to make sure that my doc was aware so that they can be sure to get out all of my placenta when I give birth. When I got home I went online and found that a detached placenta even partially detached is in fact Placenta Abrupto. I read that the detachment can start to occur as early as 20 weeks and that it could stay partially detached or eventually become fully detached. Im really scared. I havent talked to my OBGYN yet. She was out of the office today and I am hoping to find someone that has had this problem that could help me to understand it a little better. ?

PA can cause premature labor, don't be surprised if this is another preemie. My sister had an undetected PA, went into labor at 31 weks and had an emergency c-section due to hemmoraging from the PA. Luckily, everythig was fine, the baby had no lasting effects and she has gone on to have another healthy full term pregnancy.

I had what they call a "retained placenta". That was scary too. After the birth of our son, the doctor had to go in & manually and pull out the placenta and even at that he only hoped to get all of it. But he didn't. I had to be rushed back to hospital a week later, I was kept over night until I passed the clot. I was really painful too! But I really believe what saved my life was my baby nursing because nursing contracts the uterus forcing out the placenta.
We all came through it. I was scary. You may want to ask you doctor if that could happen to you.
