The price of the iPhone is the same whether you're an existing customer or not. Contract renewal is unlikely though that may also depend on the store you're getting the phone from.

If you get it from an Apple store, you definitely won't have to renew but you may be faced with limited stock. It's unclear whether you'll need renewal at a Cingular/AT&T store but the phones probably won't be sold out.

I spoke to Cingular "The new AT&T". The official answer is everyone is able to purchase an iPhone as long as they sign a 2-year contract. And everyone pays the same price no matter if it is a new contract or existing. This means that even if you just extended your contract 2 years out last month, you can purchase an iPhone at retail price, and extend it two years from the date of purchase. Good deal.

Depending on how far into your contract you are you may be eligible for a discount. Most likely you will have to sign a new contract. Good luck! :)
