Around here they are usually in dry grassy fields and stuff. We have a pair that lives in our backyard and they live under a bunch of ivy, they like the cool shade during the hot days and are out mostly right when the sun comes down or early in the morning before it gets to hot. They like to hide in the middle of the day so search in some fields and dead brush and what not.

Garter snakes like warm moist places. They are good swimmers and enjoy eating small fish. You can often find them aroud a koi, or goldfish pond. They are also grass dwellers and eat insects. You can purchase one at a pet store and pose it however you like. They keep well in a standard aquarium, w/o water. Be sure to keep it covered as they will crawl out.

Wild snakes carry parasites and mites that can be transferred to your blue garter snake, so don't do it! Release the common, he belongs in Colorado, and seeing from your other post you INTENIONALLY want to rip them out of the wild, which is stressful and cruel to the snake.

usually where ever I am I can find one because I hate snakes! Look around a shallow creek bed and you can find them sunning themself. Good luck
