are US coins minted in 1972 and below still legal tender and considered currencies?

im not from the US and i have some one dollar coins with dates 1972. i was just wondering if i can still use them for normal transactions/purchases in the US. thanks

All coins minted by the United States from 1793-2007 are legal tender, as well as the paper money. Some of course are worth much more to collectors. You have Eisenhower dollars and indeed they can be spent. You may get a funny look, as someone said. There is actually no space for them in cash register drawers. Take them to a bank and get paper money.

Those dollar coins are more commonly referred to as Eisenhower Dollars, and were strucked for an 8-year period from 1971-1978 in two types, one with the eagle reverse(which is like yours) and the other with a bell dated 1976 specially to commemorate the US Bicentennial. These dollar coins are still legal tender and can be circulated in the states, although they are often saved as mementos and saw little circulation outside of casinos. Collector value is about $2 each in uncirculated condition. Other coins dated earlier than 1972 are also still legal tender but many have been valued higher than face, depending on the types.

Although the designs on our coins have evolved over the decades all our coins are still legal tender, even if they were minted in 1904, however, if you find one that old in your spare change it may be worth more than it's face value.

for sure they are legal coins, but before you spend them on something, they may be worth more then a dollar. check at a local coin shop

If your dollar coins are still in mint, they'll still be usable. You should just see if you can trade them in at a US bank and see if it has a great value if it isn't in mint anymore. I hope this helps.

yeah, you can use them but people might look at you funny
